Once your video is up and running on YouTube now the question remains how we can improve the rankings?
The best way to do that is to promote your video on all your other social media channels such as Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Tumblr, Pinterest and even other websites such as Forums, Reddit, Yahoo Answers, Quora and other content syndication platforms. But what do you do when you don’t have a social media following just yet? What if you are just starting out with your channel, have limited time and just want to focus on organic growth through search?

One of the most important ranking factors is overall watch time from your Channel (that’s why you need to do internal linking to your other videos) plus retention rate. Retention rate is the time people are watching your video. For example you have a 10 minute video and people only watch the first 5 minute you have a retention rate of 50%. If your competitors are only getting a 10% retention rate and you 12% then your video will do better in ranking.
Another important ranking factor is CTR (Click Through Rate). If someone is typing in a keyword in the YouTube search bar and can see the first 5 videos in the results then the first video he or she clicks on has the best CTR. That’s why creating appealing thumbnails is very important which you can do with Canva.com.
For influencing your retention rate you can use a view exchanger called YTMonster. Now a lot of YouTube marketers would disapprove “buying YouTube views” from third parties sites and I do agree with them. The reason for that is because you don’t know where these views are coming from. They are probably using bots and not real people having a genuine interest in your videos therefore the retention rate would probably be very low. And this would only do harm for your channel.
YouTube also has a advertising side of their platform. However this will not work to improve rankings of your videos. The reason for that is because people will see your video as a ad, will skip and were probably not even looking for your video in the first place. Therefore engagement will be very low. Adwords for Video has been designed and seems to work great for generating leads. So getting people off the platform onto a website.

Another (old-school) way to improve rankings is getting backlinks to your videos. This is what always use to work and will still work. However sometimes “buying backlinks” can also penalize your rankings if done incorrectly. I used to buy a lot of backlinks from market places like Fiverr and Konker with not much results unfortunately. Until I start to use backlinks from TheHoth.com.
Again your long term vision should always be to build a active community on all your other social media channels to improve social engagement. If you have done that then you shouldn’t have to worry about spending money on buying backlinks. However when just starting out this can help with your first rankings and to get some organic attraction.
